Surly Recall

Posted in in Uncategorized on September 2nd, 2010 by nicholasb | No Comments

We got this email from the Australian Surly wholesaler. It applies to complete Surly-specced Truckers and Crosschecks, equipped with cantilever brakes, not vbrakes

Dirt Works Australia would like to advise you of a voluntary recall we have initiated involving the Surly Crosscheck and Long Haul Trucker bicycles.

Some bicycles may have been supplied without the straddle cable catch hook.

We have the hook kits in stock and will be shipping them to you over the next week.

Please advise your customers to cease riding these bicycles and return them to you for the catch hooks to be fitted.

We apologise for this and hope that we can get everyone back on their bikes as soon as possible..

Fringe Festival Projector Bike

Posted in in Uncategorized on August 30th, 2010 by schmadzie | 1 Comment

We’re sponsoring Projector Bike as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival -

Projector Bike invites you to come with us on a tour through the back lanes and byways of the inner west.

By night we will take to the streets with a mobile projection rig and sound system that will illuminate the walls and the tell tales of life in the city.

We will be taking two tours each night of the inner west and projecting video works from local artists on the buildings and back streets of Newtown.

So grab your fixie, mountain bike, street machine, pub racer or BMX as we go searching for the secrets that this city has to offer.

The ride will take approx 60 mins and stop at five different locations.

Maintenance Courses This Week and Next..

Posted in in Workshop on August 9th, 2010 by nicholasb | No Comments

We’ve got a couple of spots left for Maintenance Classes this week and next. We can’t teach you how to use every tool in the Park Master Mechanic Kit, but we can help with the following:

Wednesday August 11. GearsChange a cable and adjust rear gears. Barrel adjusters.

Wednesday August 18Brakes - Change a cable and fit/adjust v brake pads. Barrel adjusters.

Courses run 6.30-8pm for $50. Full payment required up-front for a booking.

Our courses are small, hands-on, so you can really learn how to do things (and remember them). We focus the course on the needs and bikes of the attendees.

Our mate James (“digi-whizzkid”) supplied us with some new home brew on the weekend that i think was described as an English bitter, not a style i am familiar with or thought i would enjoy but the advice to drink very cold appealed.

Who would have thought that something in a fairly ugly plastic bottle could taste so good. Thanks a bunch James, warmed us up for the ride home on this appalling Monday night.

mmmmm

Aaron and Jacqui Hit The Road..

Posted in in Touring, Travel on August 4th, 2010 by nicholasb | No Comments

Aaron and Jacqui are hitting the road today, starting their trans-continental global touring odyssey. If you read our site regularly, you’d be familiar with their beautiful photosbeautiful bikes and previous adventures so they go with best wishes from the whole Cheeky family.

We plan to ride our bikes from the west Pacific Ocean to the east Atlantic Ocean. We’ll start on the shores of Jervis Bay, Australia and with a few assisted sea crossings, cycle to the west coast of Ireland via Asia and Europe. Our specific destination is open and the time frame is flexible.

You can follow them on their site.

ATTENTION!

Posted in in Uncategorized on August 2nd, 2010 by nicholasb | 5 Comments

Our friend Adrian gave us the heads up about this. See you there.

Hi ppls,

If you read the papers, you’ll probably have heard the new cycleways have been getting a lot of bad press.
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw-act/business-fury-at-bike-paths/story-e6freuzi-1225898703757
This is a bit of a flash mob event aimed at targeting a proposed anti-cycleway rally on at the same time. i.e. as reported today:  “Angry business owners are demanding the council rip up the cycleway and residents have called for a rally at Sydney Town Hall at 6pm on Tuesday to protest against the council’s decision.”
See: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/on-your-bike-clover/story-e6freuy9-1225899453480

We’d like to show strength in numbers. Please come along and invite people within your cycling networks?

Cheers

Adrian

Support the Sydney Cycleway Network Rally

Head to town hall 6pm Tuesday to show our support for future plans to introduce a people friendly cycleway network. It also coincides with an Alan jones inspired protest that is planned for the same time.

Power grips back in stock

Posted in in Uncategorized on July 30th, 2010 by schmadzie | 1 Comment

Nick’s been using these on his bike for a few years and thinks they’re a great option if you’re looking for an alternative to cleats or toe-cages. They’re $60 a pair for the standard length.

Powergrips are so brilliant, so sublime in their simplicity and economy of material, so superior in function and practicality, that it is a crime they are not standard equipment on all new mid and entry level mountain bikes, hybrids and city bikes. – Practical Pedal

Powergrips are durable, cheap, and effective. The inch-wide webbing straps won’t scratch up your Manolo Blahniks’ the way regular toeclips will; they let you move your foot around on the pedal as comfort demands, and a twist of the foot instantly binds or releases them. They have all the advantages of both toe clips and clipless pedals with none of the downsides. – Momentum Magazine

The most underrated bicycle accessory on this or any other planet. – Rivendell
