1. Twilight Ride – Alex Canal
The next BikeSydney Twilight Ride is Tuesday, August 12. August’s theme is the Alexandria Canal. We are receiving good reports about this emerging commuter route and it’s time to check it out. Afters will be at suitable watering hole in Tempe, possibly the Cooks River Motor Boat Club if it’s open. Tempe and Wolli Creek stations are nearby for those wanting to train it home.
Meet at Martin Place, down the George Street outside the old GPO at
17:45 for an 18:00 departure. While the final route is yet to be determined, we expect it to be a gentle-paced ride on mostly quiet and flat roads.
Don’t forget your helmet and lights. A drink bottle is advised.
2. Full Moon Ride – Homebush Bay
August’s full moon is on Saturday, August 16. Yay! Moonrise is 16:48, so it should be nice and high by 19:30. Homebush Bay has wetlands and off-road paths, a disused armoury and great river views. All this by moonlight. Nice place for a moonlit picnic.
Meet at Strathfield Station (south side) at 19:30 for a 20:45 departure for a ride to Homebush Bay and return via flat back streets at a gentle pace. Don’t forget your helmet, lights and stuff for a picnic. A drink bottle is advised.
Those wishing to ride to Strathfield, can join me at the Hub in Newtown.
Contact me and we’ll negotiate a departure time. It’s about 9km.
3. Bunch Rides for Inner Urban Bicyclists.
Well, after all the responses from punters saying that they were in, a pack of one (very easy head count) took off from Martin Place and took the published route. Bloody good route it is, too. We averaged 25 km/h to Homebush West and by the time we got back to Stanmore we were still averaging 24. We would have been faster, but the headwind robbed us on the way out.
Not sure about this week. The Breeders are the Metro on Saturday night and it could well be a big one. Those up for can try this map on Bikely.com.
