Check out this sweet bike we built.

Tony had an unused Rohloff hub knocking around in the garage (!), and a hankering to get out on the dirt. We started out with the idea of a Surly Puglsey, looked a 1×1 with suspension forks, then settled on a rigid Karate Monkey. The bars are new and interesting for us – a Titec version of the famous titanium Jones H-bar.

Looks like a really small chain ring. What size? Must have an extraordinarily low gear 1!

Hi Mark – It’s a 38t. The low gear works out pretty close to a standard MTB drivetrain.

nice bike, those handlebars are crazy!

I have a 42T chain ring with my Rohloff and can hardly pedal quickly enough to engage the gear in 1.

i use a 36 tooth (illegal rohloff gearing) with 26inch wheels. Good for mtn passes with a loaded up bike.
