Lou’s Xtracycle Peapod

Lou came to us asking about a solution for carrying her two boys on her bike but wanted to avoid a trailer, and use her existing bike – so no Cabby or Bakfiets. We talked about a few ideas involving Trail-a-bikes and seat combinations, but hit on a winner when we came up with converting her existing bike with an Xtracycle Longtail kit and setting it up with a Peapod Seat, Stoker Bars, Footsies and a Kick-back stand.  We were able to supply the Free-radical conversion kit, and Lou ordered the seat from the U.S.

It was lots of fun for Chris build up, and Mick deserves credit for fabricating a neat solution to combine the normally incompatible Footsies and Kickback together.

Lou turned up for her first ride with her boys in tow, and we knew we were on a winner when they clambered on board and started playing rocket-ship (3-2-1 Blast Off!!). A few wobbly laps ’round the block to get the handling down, and Lou was off home with Nick on the Brompton for a first-ride escort.

You can read Lou’s perspective on her blog – http://youngwebe.blogspot.com/2010/11/car-free-just-got-soooo-much-easier.html. Thanks Lou - it was a super-fun project and the kind of thing we love to do.

If you want a taste of the Xtracycle magic, the Watershed Bike Library includes an Xtracycle Radish bike, (set up for load carrying rather than kid carrying).

Our stock of Rouleur #20 just arrived -

We’ve also got Privateer #1.

The first issue of Privateer, published in October of 2010, is 146 pages of articles on some of the legends of mountain biking – as well as several contributions from the aforementioned legends. Richard’s Crosscheck in Patagonia

Posted in in Uncategorized on October 25th, 2010 by nicholasb | 2 Comments

We got an email and a couple of photos from Richard in Chile..

Hi guys
having an amazing but tough trip over here in Chile. Ridden about 600km along the spine of the Cartierra Austral in Northern Patagonia so far. Been up to about 1000m and well into the snow line four times now. Camping at the base of glaciers and washing in snow melt rivers is… interesting. Have only seen a bit of sealed road so far. Beating the hell out of the Cross Check which is taking it all and loving it.

Sydney Cycle Chic does smh Growers market

Posted in in Events, Uncategorized on September 20th, 2010 by nicholasb | No Comments

Cycle Chic Sundays Does the SMH Growers’ Market – Oct 2

Final plans are still underway for the next ride – I am plotting and scheming to come up with some delicious ideas but so far here are the details…..

WHAT: A leisurely ride to the SMH Growers’ Market for some foodie fun folowed by a ride around the Pyrmont Foreshore as the mood takes us
WHO: Anyone who favours style over speed and likes to eat good food while lazing around in parks chatting to other like-minded slow bicyclists
WHERE: Meet at the city end of Pyrmont Bridge (near Darling Park Monorail Station) at 9am before heading to the market
WHEN: Saturday 2 October from 9am to midday and on……

The October SMH Growers Market is part of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival and there will of course, (’cause that’s our thing) be much eating, drinking, bicycling, picnic-ing fun with (fingers crossed) some surprises revealed over the next few weeks.

Keep the morning free and don’t forget to like our facebook page and RSVP to this event or drop me anemail if you have any questions
