We’re excited that The Treadlie Made to Measure Bike Show is coming to Sydney. It’s happening next week at the old Deus shop on Oxford St.

Our vote for Best In Show is going to go the two entries from Bobo Bicycles.

Due to overwhelming demand from you and some time and enthusiasm on our part we will be running a series of bike maintenance courses.

The first will be the most basic course which involves learning the some of the names of bike parts, rear wheel removal, patching a tube and a basic safety check. I was hoping to run the first class next Tuesday the 5th of July if there were enough takers but I understand it’s late notice. The price is $60, with a minimum of 2 participants for the course to run and a  maximum of 4 people, start at 6:30 and we’ll try to wrap up between 8 and 8.30pm. Nothing But Bikes; Beauty in Utility.

From July 24th till July 17th. every day from noon till 6 pm. Official celebration 3 pm. Sunday 10th July. All who come by bike on Sunday will be in the draw for art.

Mike Rubbo’s linocuts, rubbings and solar prints celebrate the grace and beauty  of sit-up bikes.

Having been blogging about the European style of riding for several years (situp-cycle.com) Mike hopes to use graphics  to boost the status of these bikes since he believes that the sit-up bike is the key to dramatically growing utility cycling in Australia.

It’s no accident that all the bike share schemes in the world, the Velibs in Paris, the Boris bikes in London, the Bicings in Barcelona and the Bixis in Montreal,  are all sit ups.

Registration for the Brompton World Championship 2011 is open! Register now to be a part of this hugely popular event.

The Brompton World Championship (BWC), now in its sixth year, will be held once again as part of the Breast Cancer Care Bike Blenheim Palace festival of cycling; this year the event will take place on Sunday 21st August.

The competition is sure to be intense as there will be no increase in participant numbers; registration will be limited to 750 riders, as was the case last year. As befits a true world championship, the race in 2011 will welcome the winners of the various Brompton National Championships from around the world.

The 2011 event will be held over the same circuit as in previous years, comprising 2 laps of a 6.5km course; this will give you the opportunity to beat the time you, and indeed the Champions, have set over the same course in earlier events.

Rules for the event are still pretty straightforward: helmets are a must, as are a blazer or suit jacket, collared shirt and neck tie. Sports attire is not permitted, unless it is hidden by the approved kit. There are prizes for the best-dressed, so competitors are encouraged to make an effort.

The deadline for registration is Sunday 7th August or whenever the event is full, which ever comes first.
