Bobo Custom Frames

Bobo Bicycles is owned and run by me, David Bowan, with a lot of help from enthusiastic family and friends. It’s taken a long journey to establish myself as a framebuilder, but it’s a journey that has provided me with a wealth of experience allowing me a unique perspective on purposeful, handmade, steel bicycles. I design sensible, practical bicycles.

My idea to establish Bobo Bicycles was born out of a desire to provide bicycles for people that they couldn’t otherwise get, the types of bikes had either fallen from favour or were seen as so specific as to not warrant importing into Australia – 3 speed hub gears, Rohloff specific touring bikes, classic style mixtes and steel audax and randonneur bikes. Check out the Bobo website for pics and more info on bikes I’ve built.

I’ve worked at Cheeky Monkey Transport since 2002, and pursuing framebuilding after working on bicycles as a mechanic seemed like a natural progression to me. I trained in the US at Barnetts in Colorado Springs and in frame building at UBI in Ashland, Oregon. In Australia, I’ve trained in fitting and machining as well as welding and brazing at TAFE.

My time spent working with John Bosevski at Cycle Undergound and Steve Hogg at Pedal Pushers/CycleFit provided an incredible source of knowledge and experience that exposed me to the demands and rewards of custom bicycle building at the highest level.
